Do You Feel Technology Is Always Trying To Test Your Character?

Many times I get the feeling my character is being challenged by technology just to see how patient and tolerate I am. Just when you think you got everything going the way you want it to go, up comes the hurdles and mysterious happenings.
Stay aware of these conditions. Gremlins I think is what they call them.

Can You Put On The Brakes To Your Computer If Need Be?

I often think about where are we going when it comes to how fast can these computers go. It seems to be unlimited. Shouldn't they also be thinking about the brakes?
I was taught not to start up anything with speed if you're not sure how to stop it when need be. You could end up wrapped around a pole or something.
These are the thoughts that provoked today's Compu-toon (10-3-11).
Let's start writing letters to the different computer manufacturers about brakes.

Do You Feel That Everything Is About You In This Digital World?

Today's Compu-toon has Murphy looking at a showcase of wePhones. I'm sure right a way you will see where the concept is coming from. The society is becoming more self centered than ever before. What's in it for me mentality is the game plan of the universe.
Communication should be about exchanging conversations and ideas freely  without hesitations and concerns. It seems technology is helping to encourage the "me" approach by introducing products like iPhones and apps that require customized setups. Why can't we all just be one?

Are You Always Being Warned That Your Disk Is Full?

You're in the middle of working on a masterful project with great graphics and streamers and all of a sudden you get flashed with the warning "Your Disk Is Full".
That really disturbs my creativity. You would think they would have invented a system by now that took care of space problems for lazy and unconcerned people like myself. My mind is far from making sure that every piece of element I work with is at the right size and capacity to make the final composed file easy to travel through the various systems.
When will the ultimate computer ever be invented? I can't wait for that day. I hope my mental disk isn't full when it arrives.

REMEMBERING.....

The year before 9-11 I was at a cartoonist convention in New York and guess where it was held. The World Trade Center. I remember making a mental comment about the towers on how flimsy they looked especially the exterior of them.
I had bought a new camcorder and was being a complete tourist while I was filming the outside and gathering footage of things before 9-11 happened. It is very strange seeing and listening to people I had briefly met while there.
We can only hold on to their memories and remember GOD is in control.

Do You Ever Feel Your Password Leaves You On A Deserted Island?

If the world was an honest place, we wouldn't need passwords. So much for pipe dreaming. I am always wrestling with passwords making me to settle with the same password for everything. It works to a certain extent but become a bother when you are forced to use another email address.
I can't wait when fingerprint scanning becomes the norm.

Do Your Digital Toys Help You With New Ideas?

For us creative ones, the different apps and systems available really help when coming up with ideas for various projects. The juices starts flowing when you know there are brand new ways of handling certain treatments to help make your concept look better.
Technology has upgraded my senses.

How Often Do You Soul Search?

Today's Compu-toon panel remind us of how everything we need to function begin within us. We get so reliable on outside instruments to solve things our understanding of how to go about it become fuzzy and out of focus.
During your next soul searching, remember the initial home key is within you.

Are Conference Calls Workable For You?

When I talk to anyone, I like to look into their eyes. Eyes are very important for they tell you a lot about the listener. It seems this Skype stuff is the closes thing to a real time conversation. I've never experience it though.
In order for me to feel comfortable in a conference call conversation, I depend heavily on the tone of people's voices. It usually paints the picture of their eyes as they talk. Until technology solves my hang-ups,
I will have to be more trusting toward voices and forget about the eyes for a while.

Has The Hi-Definition Technology Improved Things For You?

I remembered my first job while I was in high school working at Clem's Shoe Store in Memphis, TN and how Mr. Clem would always tell me to use a lot of adjectives when selling shoes. Make the shoes look better than they really are was his motto. That immediately taught me that the world could project some untrue without us even knowing it.
Hi-Definition is just the latest interpretation of Mr. Clem's motto.

How Faceless Do You Feel?

According to an FTC website:
Fraud alerts can help prevent an identity thief from opening any more accounts in your name. Contact the toll-free fraud number of any of the three consumer reporting companies to place a fraud alert on your credit report. You only need to contact one of the three companies to place an alert. The company you call is required to contact the other two, which will place an alert on their versions of your report, too. If you do not receive a confirmation from a company, you should contact that company directly to place a fraud alert.

Do You Question Your Memory?

I have been experiencing memory problems lately and the different events prompted me to draw up today's panel. The first thing that crosses my mind is that dreaded disease but I can't remember the name of it. I have been involved in a lot of stuff lately and having to maintain so much information is probably the cause of my "loss of memories".
It's time for an upgrade.

How Do You Handle Foul Text Messages?

At this point, I don't actually text. The closest thing to it is the instant messaging and that can be fun. My practice on how I take on rude behaviors in real time stands the same in the tech world. I would immediately discipline the sender without any hesitation. What one person call vulgar may not be so to another so there is a fine line on how to approach this.
To me foul words are foul words. Filter preferences helps out a lot to prevent experiencing these uncomfortable moments. To bad we can't mute inappropriate text messages yet.

Do You Give In To Unrealistic Websites?

Whenever I sit down in front of my computer I make sure my blinders are on. If I don't, I will be swaying all over the place browsing here and browsing there and before you know it you are in places you should not be. Places like where Irma is in today's Compu-toon. This behavior mimics how life is. If you are not sure where you are going and you do not have any goals or directions, you will start dabbing into a lot of things and end up in the wrong place.
The key point to all this is to make sure your blinders fit well. You don't want any temptation leaking in.

Where Do You Get Your First Source Of Information?

I am still a person of substance. I need to have the raw form in my hand instead of the source being presented to me by way of some kind of electronic means. Although I appreciate what is going on with how we communicate and how we are being communicated to, there is an empty void if I cannot have the original source in my hand. I do not care to be wireless...put it in my hands.

Are Your Digital Buddies Friendly?

We sure do use the word friend very loosely these days. What is truly a friend?
According to Webster:
a person whom one knows and with whom one has a bond of mutual affection, typically exclusive of sexual or family relations.
• a person who acts as a supporter of a cause, organization, or country by giving financial or other help join the Friends of Guilford Free Library.
• a person who is not an enemy or who is on the same side she was unsure whether he was friend or foe.
It doesn't seem like Webster knows what a friend is either. It's one of those words we use a lot like "love" and "hero." The best way to know if you've got a friend is to let it be known you are in trouble of some kind and see who comes to your rescue. That's a friend.

Are You Savvy With Online Services?

I am far from it. I think I have some kind of hang up with following instructions from a robotic source that has no feeling and care less of what I am all about. I come from a profession that is full of sensitivity and relating to people was my biggest point. I could almost evaluate a person over the phone and I felt they could do the same with me. That sense of feel will never be captured by any of these systems as we know them today.

Do You Still Find Identity Theft A Problem?

Yes...it will always be a problem. I am even more leery than ever. Whenever those enticing ads present themselves across the screen and tell me I've won a free laptop or a vacation in Hawaii, the first thing that crosses my mind is entrapment. Who knows how many laptops and trips to Hawaii I might have truly won if that cloud of disbelief did not hang over the excitement of using the Internet.
I do not go as far as covering my face like the guy in today's panel but there is a mental disguise that I make sure is in place while I browse.

Are We Being Forced To Go Completely Digital?

I am not sure if it's me or not...but I have this feeling I am being told that if I do not start using all these various digital toys and services they have out here I will be left behind and possibly be fined or imprisoned or both. Do not we have the freedom of "low-tech rights"?
I am sick of being informed by companies that I must get used to their online services. Do not mention their robotic voice systems. I find myself actually yelling at those digital operators. I have to catch myself and remember it's not human. There must be a better way to handle these transitional periods so we will not feel like someone has us in a headlock.

You Ever Wondered How To Get Back To The Main Menu?

Ever so often I go way out on a limb about something and once I am out there I begin to have doubts. Having doubts when you are in the midst of something that is going to turn your world upside down is not a go thing.
My parents always taught us as kids "whenever you are not sure about something...go back to basics". I am always going back to basics. I guess that means I am not very optimistic.
Hm-m-m, where's the main menu.

Miss The Old Way Of Gossiping?

No matter how advance we get in ways of communicating, there will always be the yearning desire to orally express your opinion about something or someone. Texting is the way things are transported now but there is a lot that is not covered in this new way of gossiping. Those moments and styles of word handling will never be picked up by digital transactions. Technology is still a baby so those characteristics that are needed to gossip really right will not take hold for years to come. Until then, let's all find an old water cooler and do it the old fashion way.
